Immigration Debate

Earlier this afternoon president Barack Obama gave a speech and explained his administration's immigration plan in more detail about letting 800,000 illegal immigrants apply for temporary legal status and work visas. While delivering his speech a reporter interrupted him twice trying to provoke an argument in a way but was later silenced by the president by saying "I didn't ask for an argument" and continued with his presentation. Obama's proposal would allow immigrants under the age of 30 who don't have criminal records and who have graduated high school, and have lived in the U.S. for at least five years to apply for visas and work permits but one catch is they must have entered the U.S. when they were a child around the age of 15. In a decisions poll held for registered latino voters, 87% of them support legalizing young immigrants. Opponents of the bill like the Republicans complained that by creating this, will encourage more people to attempt to cross the border illegally.

Career Day

This year I attended the job fair that is held every year at a local college called Concordia and our school spent the whole day listening to presentations by people who run their own businesses, work at a large company, and entrepreneurs. Visiting all those job presentations was very informative because no one has ever talked to us about those jobs in detail. Some stuff from the main presentation held in the large auditorium I remember from my last visit so I didn't really need to hear that information again. While I was there, I sat in on two presentations just like everyone but the one that was most interesting to hear about was the second one where this man talks about how he started his own franchise of Little Caesar's pizza stores. At first he was a successful lawyer working at very well known law firm but then he quit his job to pursue what he really wanted to do, to own a small business without having a boss tell him what to do. He knew the risks about staring his business like if he chose a bad location where there isn't many customers, he could end up losing all his money he invested into that shop. I liked both my presentations that I listened to because they were both telling me stuff about that particular business that I didn't know about. I do have a career goal in mind for the future which is to become a pilot of either airplanes or helicopters or maybe even both. Once I finish up getting my general education, I will look for another college more into aviation to help me achieve my goal. I have researched a couple colleges that are focused on aviation and the best ones are usually too expensive or far away so I just looked into closer schools that aren't so expensive because I don't think I can get into those. Right now I am currently unemployed because of several reasons like the lack of jobs right now, employers don't want inexperienced workers, and too many senior citizens are still working. I have previously tried job hunting for a month straight but out of all the applications I turned in not one replied back for an interview. After a while of trying to get a job I just stopped searching and focused more on my school work because at the time I was doing my senior exit project and I was already on a tight schedule to finish up and turn it in on time, but now that I am going to graduate I will start my search again. I am open to any job that will hire me because I never had a job before and I just want to work because I have too much free time on my hands. After my graduation I don't know what I'm going to do except got to OCC and looks for a job, I wish I could go on a vacation like my other friends but I can't unfortunately.

3 Wishes

Almost every one in this world has at least had that moment when they dream about having either vast amounts of wealth, a new sports car, a mansion over looking the sea, or just having peace on earth but I have more important dreams of hopefully being achieved in the distant future. For my first wish I would wish for tools and complete knowledge in space travel to go across space within mere days or weeks rather than it taking months and years. This wish would allow us to finally figure out if we are alone in the universe and find out if they are as evolved as we are, but I wouldn't want my wish to figure everything out for us by providing all the facts and details about discovering space. I would want it to be like a surprise.

My second wish would be the ability to build new locations around the universe so people can live there independently without having to travel back and forth to earth for supplies when in need. Creating new "earths" would probably be the most amazing thing that humans would accomplish in the history of man, it would also be a plus if when we arrived to that new location there were already civilizations that have grown like us on earth. Even though my family is religious and we believe in god and jesus, I can't miss out on the chance of knowing if its all real or not.

For my final wish, I would want a very large amount of money that I can spend anywhere at anytime in the world. The first thing I would do with my money is to put 75% of it in the bank and the rest in my house so I can spend on what ever I want like buy clothes, food, and miscellaneous products. I would keep the money from my bank account there for special purposes like paying for school or paying for a car.

Domestic Violence

During the assembly today I had no strong feelings of boyfriend and girlfriend abuse. The presentation delivered by the woman was very informative but most of the stuff I already knew about and the rest I didn't really care about because I have no history of abusing or being abused in a relationship and I don't plan on having one in the future. Sure the subject about some one getting injured or even killed is a sad subject but I am not that saddened about it because there are more important issues that are going on in the world, having a bad relationship is not a pressing issue that everyone must turn their attention to. I am not at all for people getting abused by some one else.

As for the laughing today, some people might have been laughing because it made them feel uncomfortable so they relieve the feeling by trying to make it into a positive one by cracking a joke. Not all student can be classified as being disrespectful and pathetic for not knowing how to deal with their emotions properly in that situation.

While I was listening to the woman speak it was not very enjoyable to hear about those sad stories because it kind of made me feel guilty in a way even though I never did anything, I never liked these kinds of presentations. Today was not my first time having to hear about how teenagers or young adults get abused by other family members or their partner. I have seen and read enough of those kinds of stories to understand that it is wrong so I don't really need to sit through another any time soon.

As for my personal life, as I said I have no history with abuse to that degree but I have been hit a couple times by a parent but I don't consider it abuse because I understand that what I did deserved a punishment. For generations parents have been hitting their children when they get to a certain point of disobedience and I think that is perfectly fine, as long as they don't go overboard by causing emotional scars or even physical ones. I bet most people now a days do not hit their children because they believe it will traumatize them for life but I'm not saying that violence is the answer, I'm just saying some times it is the answer when they do not obey verbal discipline.

Happiest Place

There are a lot of places that I can consider happy but one of my happiest places on earth would probably be located at my house. I don't get to travel around or see some places like other people so my options are limited. I have taken vacations to San Francisco and Las Vegas and even gone down to Mexico but those places aren't places where I can spend time and be happy. Disneyland had proclaimed itself the happiest place on earth and it might be true but in reality its only a fun place if your a child, adults can't enjoy the rides like children do. Plus I haven't been to Disneyland in years. Amusement parks are a fun place to be at but I personally don't like places with a large amount of people bunched up into an enclosed space. When I spend time at my house I like to lounge around and play with my pet bird, a domesticated wild bird. My family first found the bird when it was a baby and we nursed it back to health because both of its legs seemed to be broken or at least very damaged. He recovered and ever since it has been living with us just flying around our home as he pleases but he is also an aggressive bird, if you make him angry he will fly and attack either your feet or your hands but it doesn't hurt that much. Another activity I do is play online games and webcam chat with other online friends. My friends have a webcam setup in their room and we just hang out for a while just talking about random stuff and mess around with siblings who are in the room for fun. Most of them live in different cities like Los Angles, San Bernardino, and even the UK. I love finding out how other people live just to see how different but similar our lives are.

10 Problems

  1. Internet Gaming Addiction
  2. Violence Media
  3. Violent Video Games and School Shootings
  4. Bullying at School and Online
  5. Violence at Home
  6. Violent Culture
  7. Suicide
  8. Drug Use
  9. Peer Pressure
  10. College

All these problems affect teens now a days, unlike how teens in the 80's and 90's which didn't have much problems with video gaming and internet use. Since then the graphics of video games and television have improved to look more realistic and invoke some people to want to act out against friends and family. I don't exactly agree with video games causing violence because playing a murderous game doesn't make me want to kill teachers and students in school. Most of these problems we teens deal with can be easily dealt with by not having a bunch of stupid kids doing whatever they want and making them understand that that stuff isn't real and is made up.
